Red Hat Deltacloud Aspires to Become an Industry Standard
Company moves Deltacloud to Apache Incubator.
Yesterday Red Hat hosted a virtual press conference titled "The Evolution of Cloud Foundations." The press conference served to outline Red Hat's plans for the future of their cloud services and JBoss, but the big announcement was that the company would be open sourcing all of its cloud APIs.
During his portion of the presentation, Red Hat cloud product manager Bryan Che explained that third-party governance was necessary to achieve true interoperability and portability.
"We do not want Deltacloud to be under the control of any one particular vendor," Che said during his portion of the conference.
Red Hat has released the Deltacloud code to the Apache Incubator, in hopes of encouraging third-party contributions. The company also launched APIWanted.org, which allows visitors to suggest new features and additional APIs.
Red Hat is hoping that the above actions will influence the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) to make Deltacloud the official industry standard for moving workloads from one Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider to another. Currently, DMTF oversees CDM, DASH, and OVF.
